Everyone wears a mask. What we see of people on the surface is so rarely what’s ticking underneath. And, in Cortland Hunt’s case, what he’s hiding might just be more than Ian Tanner is prepared for.
Breaks is the story of two young adults coming to terms with who they were, who they are and who they’ll become.
It’s a love story…but a little broken.

How darned proud can we feel of our boys here, eh? Cortland: the firebrand - has listened, is digesting, is hurting - but is going for a pro-active approach. He's thinking positively and showing Ian just what an impact he's made too. And Ian...Ian has listened, supported silently and resisted butting in and potentially igniting a volatile situation. The pair of them have taken a pretty huge step here. Whatever mistakes Harvey has made, he should feel pretty proud of the space he bought Cortland to become who he's growing into.
So - con season is nearly at a close. Just MCM to go! eeeee, MCM London, weekend after next, is a beast of a show and I'll be sharing a row in the comic village with good friends: Robin, Kit, Fez and Kate - so I'm looking forward to it. How many of you are planning on heading along? Remember, after that, I'll be able to look at offering online sales for the issue 7 limited sketch cover :)
And lastly - a huge thank you to my new patrons this week if you're reading here! You guys make me so happy and motivated. Honestly, if every BREAKS subscriber gave me just $1, I could probably fund half a year's work on BREAKS. The power of many. As it is, I know it's just not possible for everyone, but let's all show some love to those heroes who keep this comic going! *scatters confetti* xx
Like what you read? This comic is made and distributed for free. Some lovely folks are backing my work as patrons through:
If you like the idea of supporting the comic, or even getting access to the pages every Friday before it goes live on Monday, then why not join us? Or, you can buy me a Ko-Fi (literally, buy me a coffee with a one-click donation), so awesome!): www.ko-fi.com/inkytasty
You can even buy the print edition of the first arc!
well, since boxing is kinda a theme in their family.. why not try to bound over it during a fight. and now the big secrets - "i'm gay" vs "i'm the one who made the dude die" - are out, i think they'll find the way to each other ~
Wow, I just love these two...they really have come such a very long way. It’s crazy to think back to the beginning of this and where they were then. This would’ve gone a very different way if it had taken place at the start of this comic.
I'm so proud of Cortland for holding out the olive branch here. It can't be easy for him to open up to potential disappointment this way. And poor Ian has that face which screams "I'm very impressed and attracted to you right now but this is also incredibly awkward."
Olive branch is right, @IronDog! And we're so glad everyone is breathing a sigh of relief. this scene could have played out very different without the growth these boys have experienced, and the fact that Ian is there at all!
