Everyone wears a mask. What we see of people on the surface is so rarely what’s ticking underneath. And, in Cortland Hunt’s case, what he’s hiding might just be more than Ian Tanner is prepared for.
Breaks is the story of two young adults coming to terms with who they were, who they are and who they’ll become.
It’s a love story…but a little broken.

Hi guys! What a great selection of comments to that last page - thank you! things are really moving now...
Remember when Cortland and Ian were happily drinking and laughing together? Halcion days, eh? :D
Not so great a time happening now.
Oh, Cort. He probably wouldn't have even minded Ian telling him. But the betrayal clearly stings. A lot. Remember Ian asking that question that's in the background? It was a while back now, but with the new information, that question is pretty loaded for Cort.
But there's something more to this, it seems. That scene isn't a flashback to the park...hmmm.
Oooooh maaan... Get your ass ready for some kicking, Ian. Also, Cort, you really should sit for a bit, you don't look so great right now... Painkillers+ alcohol+ the sting of betrayal doesn't seem a good combination
Where's the snakeskin?
That's my clue that he's just not angry. (I could totally be reading way too much in to the stylistic choices, but I feel like I always get to see that pattern when there's rage) He could FORCE himself to be angry here, but the gut reaction looks more like PTSD and PANIC.
I want to reach in through the pages, grab them both up and say, "Hug it out. Use your words. This is going to go SO badly and you NEED one another to get through it so just STOP."
@CatastropheJones: You're reading it exactly right - as always ^__^ The snakeskin is more linked to his anger...of which there is a lot. But the panic attacks he's experiencing are not always about supressing anger, and this one's more of a genuine gut punch of a memory. The kind of thing that would usually send him punching a wall or something sensible...so it all ends up as anger with him. GAH :(
