Everyone wears a mask. What we see of people on the surface is so rarely what’s ticking underneath. And, in Cortland Hunt’s case, what he’s hiding might just be more than Ian Tanner is prepared for.
Breaks is the story of two young adults coming to terms with who they were, who they are and who they’ll become.
It’s a love story…but a little broken.

Ding ding ding! It's the end of issue three! ^__^ *confetti*
Cheer up, Cortland, issue four starts next week and we'll be jumping ahead a week or so...so you'll be a bit less bruised at least. And Ian...you just keep stewing over what you've done, boyo. :D
Oh god, you guysssssss. The comments! The comments! I'm uploading from my iPad at the mo, so it's a bit more fiddly to reply to everyone right now, but rest assured that each time I got a notification of a comment I was leaping to the site and drinking it in. *happy sigh* you guys have no idea the smiles you've been putting on my face. <3
Though Malin doesn't really comment on here much, I know she's feeling the same too!
So, that wa issue three. There is a lot of stuff bubbling under the surface, eh? So much to find out...and issue four may throw a few surprises. There may even be the odd funny moment. No, really! It can't be miserable all the time ^_~
Whaou! Perfect way to end this chapter, haha!
I'm in such a good mood after reading that!
This two last pages made me smile, wider and wider, they are both just so stubborn and adorable at the same time.
I really love their expression on the fourth and sixth panel of this page. I didn't think Ian could be this "panicked" or shy...or just blush like that while looking at Cortland actually!
They still have a long way before confessing to each other, but to look at them trying to get closer in their own way is so funny.
He says he's alright, but you can see so clearly in his eyes, expression and his posture in that last panel how much he *isn't* okay at all. Especially his eyes, though. There's so much hurt there. Jesus, they just kill me. The first part of this page made me laugh - really Ian, nice escape there XD. But Cort... hnnnghhh. So much heartbreak. I can't even. You guys are killing it.
OHMEINGOTT!!! That's what you get for smoking, Ian! Though, for once, I may be a wee bit glad the taste of tar became a clue for our Sleeping Beauty to discover his not-so-charming *cough*stalker*cough* Prince ;P
Phew, for moment I was wondering if Ian had smoked when he witnessed the beating and Cort would guess he was there or something. (Although I don't think anyone would smell it that far, remember it well afterwards when so much else was going on, and if they did would suspect any particular person for hiding nearby at the time. Still, it crossed my mind.) This was a more pleasant memory/"dream"/conversation for the future. :)
@Xrs: There's defeinitely some smell/memory relation going on here...though I'm not sure he understands it yet, poor lad :D
As for a printed comic...well, we have had the prologue in print for a while now (it's the first night of events in a mini comic. Let me know if you've not seen the link and I can show you where to get it), but we decided we wouldn't print any more until we had the first book ready. That's the first arc, so six issues. We don't know at this stage if it will stay independent or if we'll get help from a publisher (we have considered kickstarter too), but we can promise it will be a lovely book and we cannot WAIT to sell it! (not least of all because I'm now very poor, haha).
More news as we have it! ^_^
@Shy Reader: Aww, yay! We like making people smile :) See, BREAKS isn't 'always' depressing, haha! It's funny seeing Ian lose his cool...and it certainly doesn't happen often. I guess guilt will do that, eh? ;)
@AngryAngel: Yes! For all that there is humour in this page, what always lingers for me is that last panel. He's so not okay, it's painful. But when on earth is he allowed to let that out? And can he let it out without hurting himself or someone else? Oh, Cort. *sigh*
@Deviciouss: Oh, yeah - I don't think Cort would remember the smell from the night of the attack. Definitely something more recent..and closer. 0_O But you bring up the fact that, yes, there is a lot more besides the kiss that Ian should be feeling guilty for right now! And it looks like he probably knows it 0_o
@Xrs: Bless you, I know exactly what you mean. I'm apalled at how expensive shipping is :( It makes it very hard for UK independents...and I don't blame people at all not ordering the prologue for that reason. The postage is as much as we sell the comic for over here! 0_o
But the book...ahhh the book. I can't wait!
If in the meantime you fancy supporting in any way, I do have a patreon account running, where donations can be as low as $1 a month. The link should be at the top of the page (if I can get enough interest in it, I can post more pages a month, which would rock!), but I know that's not for everyone.
But yes, we'll be sure to let people know as soon as we know more about the print edition! ^_^
Thanks so much for the enthusiasm <3
