Well, now we know they are childhood friends. That explains some things. Their conversation made me think she is trying to figure something out, or prove something to herself. Something about Ian being really interested in her, maybe.
Cortland looked kinda happy, then the phone rang and his expression changed radically. Is there bad news, or just his brother? Or his brother is synonym of bad news?

And yes, Milly seems to be testing some waters...suddenly we feel a little sorry for her. And knowing that they're childhood friends make some sense of the way they are together, eh?
